Integrating a physician extender or NPP(non physician provider) into your office isn’t a matter of “one-size-fits-all.” How you utilize a physician assistant (PA) or nurse practitioner (NP) depends on many factors, but NPPs or non physician providers are most often integrated in the following ways:

• Operating room (OR) surgical assistant
• Independent practice without a physician present (Indirect Supervision-85% reimbursement in most cases)
• Independent practice with a physician in attendance (Direct Supervision)
• Practicing “incident to” an attending physician (100% reimbursement)
• Rural or under-served communities
